Unbeknownst to the speaker of that phrase, what you have really said to your brain is, “I don’t want to know if that happens because I don’t know what I can do about it.”
You instead want to get your entire team thinking, “If that does happen, I know we can handle it.”
Once the brain believes it can handle what is coming it’s way, it will then create the strength, resilience, creativity, or drive you need to take care of that problem. This is why you hear stories about people doing amazing feats when in danger.
So next time someone says, “Hopefully that won’t happen” just ask them what their game plan is if it does. If they don’t have one, be scared!
