30 years ago my husband and I started writing a yearly Christmas letter to each other that was filled with our memories from that year, our successes we are proud of, and our commitments of what we will accomplish the next year.
Then, we buy a nice bottle of champagne, light a candle, and read this year’s letter. Then, we read all of the past year’s letters as well.
It is one of my favorite parts of Christmas. We fall in love all over that night seeing what we have done and accomplished together.
Here is the interesting note- we had two years where things we wanted to achieve didn’t happen. When I went back to our Christmas letters we wrote from the year before for those two years, I found neither year did we put down any commitments for the next year! We coasted.
So, write down at the beginning of the year what you commit to accomplishing this next year and WHY. Then, SHARE it so you are accountable. Don’t worry if it seems big— go for it.
