In this article by JT Ripton, there is one part that stands out strong for me.  I find that the environment in which you set up for team problem solving can greatly influence the creativity as well as the conflict that crops up. 

Small places with little body space cause people to be more defensive.  Having people sit in their “usual” spots causes people to deflect others and fall “into place” thus shrinking creativity. 

Get a space that is conducive to creativity and open thinking.
