You are going to love this article!  It really gets you to understand that values aren’t about how we want to be perceived but rather they are the inner guideposts that define your character.  The phrase “walk the talk” comes from the idea that values we want others to model have to be intrinsic to us, not lip service.   

We once had a prospect that said one of their values was “Do what is right.”  Yet the entire ELT would ignore requests by their VP’s, cancel and shift meetings, and change direction on a whim.  You can see how those do NOT align with “do what is right.”  They instead say “we are held to a different standard than you all.” 

Make sure your values speak for themselves through your actions.
